Help pick a smoker
« on: November 18, 2022, 07:16:07 PM »
I’m in the market for a smoker. I had an electric vertical Bradley with the wood disks that has gave up. I’d like something bigger. I want to do all the usual stuff, pepperoni, brats, summer sausage.

I’m thinking I’d like to get the vertical style smoker. I like the option to hang the meats. Electric? I like the ease of electric. I’d also like to be able to cold smoke. Not sure that can be done with propane?

I’d like one I can easily order online or pickup locally in SW WA. What’s the best I can get for a budget of around 500$? I don’t want to build one at the moment, too many projects.

I already have a Green Mountain Grill also. But would like to have something else with the options stated above.

Let me know what you think, experiences, recommendations…

Thanks!

I have this one. Four years been good.
But I do simple stuff, fish, ducks, chicken and such.

https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/masterbuilt-30-digital-electric-smoker-with-window?ds_e=MICROSOFT&ds_c=Cabelas%7CShopping%7CSmart%7CCatchAll%7CGeneral%7CNAud%7CHigh%7CNMT&msclkid=a1c5a4bd06431fbe25c6c7c54dda6f1d&gclid=a1c5a4bd06431fbe25c6c7c54dda6f1d&gclsrc=3p.ds

That’s towards the top of my list so far. In the 40 inch version. If I do end up buying from cabelas I have some rewards I can use also, so that’s a plus. Thanks!

The Pit Boss Pro Series II and the Brunswick are right in that price range. Brunswick is through Walmart and the Pro Series II is through Lowes, so you can ship to either free and pick up.

I have the Pro Series II and it's been awesome.

I've been looking for the same, a vertical smoker that takes pellets so I can feed my traeger and vertical smoker the same stuff.

Been looking real hard at the Pit Boss electric, pellet vertical smokers.

Ooooh I’m liking these vertical Pit Boss smokers. Using the same pellets as my GMG would be nice too…

If you go with a master built, go with the electric 40". I love mine. Cold smoking will not be easy with propane.  Buy an A-Mazn pellet smoker for cold smoking and run no additional heat.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

I’ve been windowshopping at those as well.  Just not sure if I’m going to build one or buy one. Not to worried about it till next spring but that’s where I’m at.

I have a total of 5 masterbuilt electric smokers. Two 30 in and three 40 inch. I love the electric smokers. 2 musts to go with them is a 4 probe wireless temp probe from thermopro that links to a phone or tablet and 2 smoketubes. I have a 12 in and an extendable up to 18 in one. I use these with pellets to give me up to about 15hrs of smoke without touching a thing. The 40in allows you to remove all but the top rack to hang sausage. I use metal shower curtain hooks on the rack holding dowels of meat. I cook about 3 briskets twice a month and sausage and bacon regularly as well. Any questions PM me.

Yummmm. That’s exactly what I want to be able to do right there.

As of now I’m going to try and check out that Pit Boss at the local Lowes. And based on that either get it or go with the Masterbuilt.

Thanks all!
