Montana double
« on: November 22, 2023, 06:35:30 PM »
Here are some photos and a YouTube video of our 2023 Montana Mule deer hunt. It was a pretty quick hunt. We drove over Tuesday,  got to our hunting area with about an hour of daylight left. We glassed up 3 wt bucks that evening. The next morning we hiked in and I ended up shooting my buck around 130pm. We broke down my deer and continued hunting our way back towards the truck(about 4 miles away). About a mile into out hike out we turned up the 3x4 buck that my frien Brian shot. We got lots of great video of both shots.

Hope you enjoy the pictures and video.

Nice bucks! We were in a lot of deer over there this year but struggled to find mature bucks. Guess we needed sweet mustaches

@buckmaster_wa Thanks for sharing!  Looks like a great time.  What kind of pack sling are you using there?

We saw about 60 does and 20 bucks in this day. Of the 20 bucks only 3 of them were mature. The only true 4pt buck I saw was the one I harvested.  I remember just 4 years ago hunting this same spot I saw 28 bucks in 1 1/2 days. 12 of which were 4pt +.  I hope it rebounds.  I would honestly love to see Montana Fish and Game implement a 3pt or even 4pt minimum on the east side of the state.

Did you just support a 4 pt minimum! Ahhhhhh!  :chuckle:

I am at the point that antler point restrictions should be implemented in alot of areas. Don't make any changes to blacktail units but in areas with low mule deer numbers make a 4 point minimum and even some whitetail units. Leave some areas open to a 3 point minimum where numbers are steady.  :dunno:

I agree, I wish all western states would implement a 4pt minimum.  And give a limited amount of any buck tags to youth hunters.

And cut the number of resident doe tags . Always cracks me up when I'm in Montana hunting and the  locals are bashing out of staters ( which they really dislike guys from Washington  :dunno:)
Saying we kill all the deer . As they have 10 does stacked in the bed of their truck

I believe they were hunting the CMR area. In that region hunters are only allowed 4 antlerless whitetail Deer B licenses. Antlerless Mule Deer licenses are by drawing, and only 1 per hunter.
