American Legion Post #14 Spring Drawing
« on: February 23, 2024, 12:00:08 PM »
Hey fellow HuntWAvians, our Vancouver Post #14 is having its Spring Drawing for $1,500 (paid in 3 $500 pre-paid Visa cards). Drawing will take place on April 24th, 2024. Each ticket is $10 and only 850 maximum will be sold (Keep in mind that last Fall we only sold 550). Each ticket is $10 and will support infrastructure and veteran services at the post and in our community. These vets need our help. At 66, I'm one of the youngest members.

I'll take a check, PayPal, Venmo, and Cash app. Please consider getting a few chances at a big payday for a great cause.

Do you have a deadline or does it stop when you reach 850?

Awesome, thank you.

Incidentally, I was asked yesterday to run for Post Commander in the upcoming May officer election. Quite an honor and responsibility for a guy who just joined under a year ago.

I don't think our local Post is even active anymore. I know they were hoping for a boost in membership when they changed the legislation to allow all vets with an honorable discharge to join but it didn't happen and then covid came along. When I was a kid the Legion, the Grange, the Lions Club and Masons were all fixtures in our little town and now with a much greater population to draw from they're all either gone or about to be. Changing times I guess but I think you're lucky still to have an active Post in your community.

We're very fortunate. It's challenging getting younger vets to join. I've been trying to recruit through VFD and the VPD and CCSO. Younger vets have families to raise and the last three generations aren't joiners for the most part. We sent off one of our Korean War vets yesterday with a remembrance gathering and have two more in the hospital. A former mayor who was very active is now in permanent memory care.

This drawing will help keep the services flowing to our vets who need them.

Wednesday is Taco night, nachos, taco salads. Pianoman is behind the bar and then finishing out the night on the piano. If you're in the area, come join us, veteran or not, and tell them I sent you.

Anyone else want to take a chance at $1,500? Could really make a dent in hunting and equipment costs this year.

I volunteer to bartend every Wednesday night, sometimes Friday, too. I play piano for them after dinner is over and the Auxiliary ladies are playing bunko (or something like that). Our membership needs help sourcing benefits, getting help with medical appointment transportation, even people helping with chores and errands. Our facility needs maintenance, taxes paid, insurance - all the costs of running a business - to continue helping our brothers and sisters. These raffle tickets will help with all of those things. Please consider purchasing a few. Thanks!
