Leupold RDS 1x muzzleloader scope 1 moa dot

Was on the fence about picking up a 1x scope for the muzzy but happened to get an east side quality muzzy elk tag.  I ordered the Leupold RDS muzzle loader scope with the CDS dial today and a rail with rings to drop it as low as possible to the bore.  Anybody run some rounds underneath one yet?  Not many reviews out there.

I have shot to 100 yards with mine so far. With a few shots further. So far I love it. Seem more consistant with less flyers on groups. Love everything about it. I have not played with cds portion yet for distance adjustments. And I can say I still hold to my opinion on my max range will stay very close to the same with or without the 1x vs open sites. I feel cleaner shooting it but to me it is still 1x and I won't be stretching shot distances compared to my peep sight. I was very comfortable to 135 to 150ish yards before. Still feel like that will be my max.

I've ran 8 shots through my accura and have been impressed. Got about a 3 inch group at 100 yards. Still have some more rounds to send downrange though.

While not a leupold rds, i bought a trijicon rmr for my muzzle loader. Put it on my 22 for the time being for repetition and practice. In the 3-400 rounds since i bought it i completely disagree with the idea that it wont increase my effective range. It has to imo. The range i go to has an 8 inch chicken at 220 yards and i can hit that at will with my 22.
Now i completely understand that it is a 22 and not a muzzle loader, but the aiming mechanics are the same. A big benefit is the field of view. You can accurately hold over without obscuring the target whatsoever. That is going to he huge.
My next step is to put a 10x on my muzzle loader and learn its ballistics out to 300 yards, then switch back to the dot. I am confident that i can get consistence yo 200+ yards and 300 may not be put of the question depending on just how much holdover it would involve. The elevation dial on the rds would only help if it is consistent.

I have both the RDS and a Sig Romeo5 on AR's and decided on the Romeo for the muzzy.  Before shooting it though decided to get the Romeo4 because it had a drop reticle and that is on it now.  Agree that it will allow for hold over without blocking the target.

Thanks for the reply’s everyone, sounds like it is a good option for what we have available to us.  I currently have western precision peep and globe with the inserts (REM 700 uml). Definitely an accurate setup but struggle in low light, dark environments.  I think the red dot will be be an advantage with those situations.  Shooting off a steady rest, pack or bipod, was confident out to 250 or so (3” groups).  Not really trying to increase range, but able to make that shot in darker situations would be a benefit.

Anybody have a picture of a RDS on a Knight bighorn? Would like to see what it looks like mounted up. Curious if it makes it harder to load a cap. I put a scope on mine several years ago to do some load development and it definitely made it harder to cap but not terrible.

-so you got your scope without the mount and got seperate rings? Thats what im thinking about doing.

Yes the supplied mount was ridiculously high, I went with Talley mediums but probably switch them out for lows.  The supplied mount was probably an 1” higher.

I ordered the murphy precision rail and the leupold prw2 34mm medium rings. I want the scope as close to the bore also but they only made a medium in the 34mm.

Swung up to the range after work today and so far pleased with the optic.  Only shot at 100 so never dialed anything yet since I’m planning to jump to  170/180 grains if it’ll shoot well.  Definitely prefer it over a prep, much more forgiving.  Shots 4,5,6 under the new scope.

A little over a week, picked it up at Sportsman’s.  I think I still have the packaging, I’ll see if I can pull a part number when I get home.
