That’s right, nothing, nada, zilch.  After scouting the past few weeks and seeing a lot of birds, they’ve completely disappeared.  Hunted Sunday and Monday in areas that always hold grouse and didn’t see a single one.  Really strange how they vanished.  Did get some huckleberries though, so it wasn’t a complete loss 😬

BONKED BLUE GROUSE on the Sunday opener with my trusty Franchi Instinct 'L' O/U shotgun. Hunting near Cle Elum, I ran into two of my readers and one of those guys also had scored a pair of blues.
I camped up there Saturday night, slept good bundled up in my sleeping bag and hunted hard. Where I was, according to a topo map, was above 4,500 feet. Lots of berries still around.

2nd weekend score, early Saturday morning, my honey hole. When I cleaned this guy, he was already dining on needles, which suggests to me they're getting ready for a doozy of a winter.
Shotgun: 20-ga. Franchi Instinct 'L' loaded with No 6 low base shells. Already breasted and put in the freezer with both legs intact.
Did a lot of brush busting this morning. Saw two other big blues and they are still out there.

I’ve had a real good season so far. Everyone’s complained on how little grouse they’ve seen in this area, but I’ve seen nothing but great numbers all year on blues, spruce, and ruffed grouse. Co worker and I have gotten 17 since Sunday morning barely trying.

I’m up to 21 on the season.

Got the kid out again last weekend. She recorded her first grouse which was also her first kill. She then proceeded to round out her limit for the day! Big smiles and lots of fun all around. She is hooked and she said grouse is her new favorite bird to eat too.
