WSTA Event 8/9-11 Traps for sale??
« on: July 17, 2024, 06:01:27 PM »
At the WSTA Event in August will there be cage traps (Large size for Bobcat) for sale? Also, will there be anyone bringing or selling "suitcase" style beaver traps? or if anyone has any for sale and would like to meet for exchange at the event please pm me.
Looking forward to this event this year, it has been years since I last went and anxious to attend.
Thanks,
BKMFR

Good afternoon.  I have a quick question about your WSTA event.  My dad who passed away 2 yrs ago has a pile of traps that need to go.  I dont have an accurate count currently, but he has many coniber traps in 330, 220, and some 110.  There are quite a few leg hold traps that I know are illegal in washington.  Would it be worth my time to bring them to this shindig and see about selling?  Just not sure where to get rid of these things for my mom.  Would taking them and sell them for scrap metal be a better idea?  Thanks for your time.

I plan to bring several different styles and sizes of cage traps. Going to start building some "fresh" ones in the next few weeks

They'll all sell but at what prices is the question. If you want big bucks for them, no one will buy.
Sell them for scrap iron...........Hell no, you'll get less then bringing them to our rendezvous.

Just because Washington State can't use them (and that is not true either, yes you can under permit) Oregon and Idaho, and other states use them and their folks come over to our events.  Plus you can always make a deal with our guy (Eric) that runs our fur over to the Idaho Fur Sale and put them in the Fur Sale.  There is where there are bunch of Fur Buyers that buy traps and resell them plus Trappers over there can bid on them too.  Here is where you will do well on getting rid of them.

Ted Cantrell (Trap supplier) will be at the rendezvous selling trapping equipment, he might buy everything you have, check with him.

I believe I will be able to show up for 1 of the days.  Would Friday, or Saturday be the best day for this.  I will get up to mom's and get what he had to my place.  I will then sort per size and type.   If I could get someone to message me about which day and where exactly I will need to be.  I will leave Longview early AM and head to Cashmere.

And as per the answer from Trapper John.   I have no idea as far as prices go.  I truly haven't researched it at all.  I believe i will go by the old "make me an offer typ of thing.  I will do some research, but as these traps are of no use to my mom I just want them gone and I will give her whatever we get out of them.  Dave

Saturday would probably be the best day.  Just google "Chelan County Expo center" in Cashmere and it will bring you right to the door.  Someone will help you out.  Let us know if you need to "turn and burn" or can stick around for a while.  Also, if you have a couple pics to post that might help.  I'm sure you'll have some interest in any case.

Good afternoon.  I got up to dad's today and got his traps and whatnot.  He has 2 330 coniberz, 12 220's, 84 of what I believe are 160's, and 10 110's.  His leg hold traps are as follows.  Roughly 3 dozen double coils in sizes1,  1.5, and 2.  And then a couple dozen single spring and smaller jump traps. There is about a dozen of what I believe to be older traps.   There is 15 or so live traps mostly home made, in the racoon type size.

To round out the list, he had about 3 dozen wire type stretchers for rays and nutria I'm guessing.  He also had 84 adjustable cedar stretchers, dozen cedar mink stretchers and 3 cedar otter type stretchers.

I'm thinking about 8 am on the Saturday of the shindig.

So I was talking to redi (Ivan) about if it would be worth my time and effort to bring and try to sell the cedar stretchers.  He thinks it would be worth it.  Do any if you agree.  They take up a lot of room, so want to be sure it would be worth it.  Or should they just become kindling?
