How do you read this rule?
« on: April 05, 2025, 10:21:15 AM »
This is from the 2025 spring turkey hunting regulations. How do you interpret it? In bold at the top, 3 turkeys in the spring statewide. Eastern Washington says 2 turkeys expect a 3rd can be killed in Spokane county. Klickitat county 2 turkeys. Here’s the kicker, the bottom line with an asterisk says kills in klickitat county do not count toward the eastern or western Washington limits. Some are saying that means you can potentially kill 5 turkeys in the spring but that is not the way I read it. I do read it as you could kill 2 turkeys up in NE corner, or the blues, and then kill a third in klickitat county since they don’t count toward eastern wa limits… what say you? I called WDFW to verify and got my answer.

I read it the same as you. Could be worded a little better, but I think it’s a stretch to think a guy could kill 5 birds based on that wording.

I read it as 3 turkeys total, full stop.  The Klick birds don't count towards the eastern or western subtotals, but they do count towards the statewide total.

If hunting Klickitat, you can kill 1 western and 2 Klick.  Or 1 Eastern and 2 Klick.  Or 1 western, 1 Klick, and 1 Eastern. Or 1 Klick and 2 Eastern.

3 in spring in combo meeting area limits.  7 total for year with possible 4 in fall.   No you can not shoot 5 birds in the spring season.

It seems really clear. I don’t understand how one could get confused. E turkeys total statewide.

Top line: “Spring season limit is 3 turkeys total statewide”.

It doesn’t get more clear than that. There are additional restrictions to the 3 turkey limit but not exceptions.

yeah, pretty strait forward there~! the vague history was klick east west both issue.. i reached out many times and it was pretty much up to the warden interpretation that you run into... now its separated into effectively a 3rd area of the state that affords options.. but absolutely ONLY 3 IN SPRING...

How many tags can you buy in the spring?

You can buy all 7 tags right now, but there isn't a distinction between spring and fall tags. If you have an unused* tag from the spring it can be used in the fall. You are still limited to the season limits, whether spring or fall.
