Berry Report?
«
on:
August 08, 2025, 08:39:39 AM »
I'm heading out for a quick hunt this weekend into one of my alpine spots. It's about 5500'. It's a little early but I know in years past the southern aspect faces can have blueberries on them by now. Just curious if anyone has been up high yet and has anything to report?

Some species of huckleberries (small & blue) were ripe the weekend of 7/26. My favorite, the big dark colored mountain huckleberries, are not going to be ripe for another week or 2.
This was in Gifford Pinchot NF at 4700ft

I’m checking a spot in the Umitilla NF at about 5k this weekend. So we will find out together!

I’ve picked 3 gallons the last three weekends, not including the current one we’re in now, from 3000 to 5500 in the NE.

Lots of berries this year in my spot. Went out for 6 hours between the three of us we got 4 gallons. One of the best berry years as of late.

Western WA here, we’ve been from ~2500’-3500’ and all the huckleberries, elderberries and mountain ash have been making a big showing of being ripe. I’ve been really surprised at how much berries there are.

Best berry year in recent memory over here in the NE. From 2,000 all the way up to 5,200 the huckleberries have been thick. Honestly making it a harder year to locate bears since they’re less concentrated.

Central cascades last weekend there were small patches of ripe blueberries above treeline (5000-5400 feet) on south facing slopes but most berries were still green. Didn't see any bears or bear sign up there yet (and this is a spot I usually see em)- plenty of ripe berries in timber ~4000 feet so guessing that's where they're hanging out.

Also Central Cascades, mirror what gangis said. Ripe blueberries just getting going on steep south faces between 5200 and 6000. However, one difference, there was a bear eating them.
