Proud dad moment
« on: August 10, 2025, 09:10:04 PM »
My daughter and her fishing partner competed in the Washington State High School Fishing TBF Student Angler State Championship on Moses Lake over the weekend. They won the state championship with a 3 fish bag weighing 13.45 pounds. Her biggest fish weighed 5.24 pounds. What a great way to end the season. They are now qualified for the Nationals next June. Her captain for the tournament fishes for Simpson University in Redding Ca. and is a former student angler in the same Washington State league and former state champion. Pretty neat for him to come back and win state as a coach. Simpson University has been recruiting college fishermen from Washington and recently started giving out very large scholarships to get kids to come fish for them.

Yeah it was pretty awesome, it’s a really cool program, the angler of the year team who had the most points overall from this years tournaments both received $100,000 scholarships for Simpson University and they fish for scholarships at Nationals. Now she wants me to buy her a bass boat…..

A huge congrats!  I’d be very proud too.  Started fishing club tourneys at 9.  Did really well for years.  I understand how cool this is for you.  I wish they had all this stuff when I was a kid.  I  fished my first tournament in 18 years with my 16yr old this spring.  We got a check for $850 with 6th place and big fish overall.  My son caught the big one (7.5lbs).  I hope he is hooked.  I see more tournament with some of my children in the future.

My son is buddies with Axel. Everytime they fish Tule, Nathan mentions how good she is. Sounds like Eatonville is putting out some collegiate level fisherman.

That's a big win. Congrats
