New hunter looking for some help
« on: Yesterday at 09:31:17 PM »
Just moved to the spokane valley area and am looking for any help/tips on hunting the area. Dont have any friends/family here that hunts and am still very new to hunting in general so i figured id take a shot and ask here. I dont expect anyone to reveal thier secrets or anything like that but some really general guidance would be greatly appreciated, mostly interested in deer/ bear but anything about waterfowl/ upland birds would be really helpful as well

North of you is national forest and south of you is state land, landowner feel free to hunt, register or written permission. Depends on what youre after and how far you wanna travel. Get OnX and start checking out places. Get some good glass and a tripod and disect hillsides. Side note, Army corp of engineers owns the land from waters edge of the columbia to a certain height up. Can hold alot of deer in the breaks.

Yeah

There is a late whitetail hunt coming up in your area. Head up around Colville and check out the wildlife Refuge for deer hunting. Be careful though the Refuge is only open for certain animals.
Lots of National forests around too. Just go drive forest roads check the gmu and look for critters before the snow really flies.

I'll give a little bit of advice.
Late buck is usually a zoo of hunters to your North.
Opening weekend will be a free for all on Access, and finding a spot.
Here's the advice
As soon as a spot opens up gate,or walking in,glassing spot, whatever the case.
When you see them leave ,or pickup gone ,take there place.
Deer are sneaky around here, soon as they think the coast is clear .
They'll move .
That's all I got for ya.... Good luck.

National forest is a great place hunt, lots of land.......ect.
With that ,more land ,more places for a deer to hide.
I'd drive around during late buck ,check out where others folks are hunting.
Even on national, drive around, most folks will hunt where deer are at.

Been a few years since I hunted that area, but I never found any of the "Free to Hunt" areas that had anything in it. More of a scam to get free money for a crappy piece of land to my mind.
It would be nice if that has changed.
Cuterebra are NOT cute!
