Grouse hunting .22 pistol?
« on: March 21, 2026, 08:53:17 PM »
What .22 pistol would you all recommend for carrying all day for grouse while deer hunting? Was thinking a basic revolver would be cool and light, but maybe not as accurate? What do you guys like and recommend?

Ruger Mk IV Hunter is a very accurate pistol.  I have a Wrangler and it is not so accurate.  Maybe a single six would be more to your liking.  They are pretty accurate revolvers within grouse range.

My Buckmark is amazingly accurate.  It'll give my 41 a run for it's money.  Maybe I just got lucky.

But I like revolvers too and if I was looking for .22 grouse revolver I'd look hard at a 17.

I have a single six convertible, but I wouldn't put it in the caliber of my Buckmark or 41 for accuracy.

My Buckmark with Banish suppressor has been perfect for me.  Very accurate and very quiet.

I like my S & W 317 AirLite at less than 12 oz. with 3" barrel, and love the 2" snubby. But also my Browning and Ruger Semi's. The revolvers are louder, and probably not quite as accurate. Love my old Model 17 with a longer 6" barrel it's quieter and very accurate. I saw a really nice Bearcat in the pawn shop today and was tempted. They are light and handle great.

I sure wish I bought a .22 pistol with a threaded barrel before the ban so I could put a can on it.

Id like to take some of the big blues i see when im elk hunting.

Another vote for the Buckmark. Super accurate.

Buy the gun you want with a non-threaded barrel. Then buy the threaded barrel only afterwards. Or have a gunsmith thread a barrel. Easy work-around.
