knight wolverine
« on: October 28, 2009, 03:21:31 PM »
i have a knight wolverine with a thumbhole stock in stainless. one for me and for  my son. i purchased some 340 grain dead centers for elk hunting. i think after this year its back to the smokepole way to many road hunters. i have seen animals every time out. but not a buck yet. ive seen 4 cows 1 three point bull and 4 does. any how i was wondering if any one has tried these i talked to a guy from harvester muzzleloading and he is sending me some sabertooths in 270 grain and some 300 grain scorpions. i think the three hundreds will work well. i just put a knight bighorn on layaway at bobs sporting goods in longview so i would have another muzzleloader since they dont make them any more. one guy told me to try the barnes tmz spitfires in 290 grains for elk and deer. this is my first post so thanks for any info.

I have both Bighorns and Wolverines.  I like the Hornady 300 gr. SST's.  Shoot well and stay together well also.

You just gotta try and see which ones work best for you. I personally like the dead center 245 for deer and the knight 310 for elk. I shot a buffalo in SD several years ago and it dropped like a rock using the knight bullets.
To me hunting is like selling real estate, Location, Location, Location.
If a hunter can't put the bullet in the right place it really doesn't matter what the quality of the bullet he missed with was.
I'll try several trusted brands and when I find one I like I'll stick with it as long as I can put them where I need to

just try diffrent things, i shot the dead center 340 for 4 years with 125grains loose powder with great results never let me down. i switched to the 290 tmzs this year and they shoot great as well i like them and am looking to test them in the next week on my deer. my cousin shot a buck with one on saturday and it did a great job did not hit any bone just meat and ribs looked good.

My bighorn likes the knight all lead 310 grain bullets. I didn't care that you can shoot jacketed bullets i will still use the all lead knights. If it ain't broke don't fix it... We havn't had a problem in 7 years with the knight bullets.
What i think happened is people missed an animal or they lost it and blamed it on the bullet instead of the idiot pulling the trigger. Placement means more than bullet.

My wolverine shoots 295 grain Powerbelts great with 100 grains Pyrodex pellets. I've killed two elk with this setup. I also switched it over to use musket caps although I think the later models were made that way.
