The problem with short rifle season is rifle hunters.

Really, please do expalin because I don't believe any rifle hunter is responsible for the season being shortened to 8 days.

I was shooting a pm to a friend and it dawned on me to post the comment.  Basically what it takes in this state, or any state for that matter, but particularly this one with the type of hunting pressure we put on them.

I wonder if our 190 buck made it......  all he has to do is survive Poachers, coyotes, cougar, wolves, sickness, the weather, and general season from Sept 1st to the end of October and then all the permit guys. LOL

I probably should have added roadkill.

Not to mention starving on the uphill side of the deerproof fence; shot for having the audacity to eat flowers or landscaping, by the transplanted homeowner living on the winter range; or being stressed to death by cross country skiers, snowmobiles, stray dogs, and photographers with no clue about wildlife and a point and shoot camera with mediocre zoom capabilities.  Not to mention that these effects don't occur in isolation, but are cumulative and compounding.

Like it or not, us 2-legged hairless apes are the root of most of the problems.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

I think he is just saying that if they were white hunters, would you have said "6 white hunters passed within feet of this buck?" Probably not. I walked within 20 yards of a buck that I ended up missing this year, didn't know it until this guy came over and told me I was right above it before. He didn't point out that I was white though.

thats exactly what i meant, just funny how you would say 6 mexican hunters instead of 6 hunters. Just seems like your trying to imply something more since they were mexican and walking by a buck. My point exactly would you say "6 white" "6 black" or even "3 mexican hunters and 3 black" hunters?
Ruger brought back the .220, i just shoot it.

I count 3 directions this thread has run now.
Game laws, depredation, and a racial point of view.

What it takes, Hunting pressure, Hunting Seasons, Length of Seasons, Hunters are all on subject.

Are you kidding me? 8 days for general mule deer is too long?

huntinphool implied that I stated this. I stated Seasons.

Why is it racial? I was describing the scene pictured in my mind. Rather than make it to long I shortened it.
The whole story was that my wife and I wanted to get some pics of some animals after the general season. We dressed for the bitter cold and went out way before light. We hear a lone animal approaching in the rocks. As it lightened we saw this monster buck bed down. Not light enough for the camera. We were freezing and wanted to get back to the truck but heard noise so stayed put. Here come the six Mexican hunters chattering away and laughing, no coats, no orange, with rifles and shotguns.  I told my wife, man those guys are tougher than we are. Although wondering about the rifles and shotguns with no orange we left. For those that want it to be racial so be it. It wasn't and isn't to me.

Fishhunt figured out my statement, and Doublelung has certainly added some more contributions to the Awe statement.

A recessed buck, A REAL ONE is about as rare in Washington as it gets.

I do frown on hunting from Sept 1 to New Years, but I don't think modern can be shortened any more

after reading this thread and all the talk about racist comments, i'm going to start putting the race of any hunter i post about, white, black, brown, yellow, or green, just so people don't think i'm racist when i do actually say something about another race of hunters.  : ;) :chuckle:

Then perhaps you should be a little more specific when talking about shortening seasons, its comments like that that end up in the F&G questionare when they are looking for input.

Being a hunter you should know deer SEASONS go from SEP to JAN and I did further specify when you implied something I never said.
I highly doubt WDFW is putting this in a Questionaire, unless you Input it.
