Bright neon duck calls
« on: August 20, 2011, 07:35:10 AM »
This year will be my second season hunting waterfowl and I've been wondering about neon colored ducks for years. If duck hunters spend $$$$ on camo and dekes and what have you, why do companies such as Zink make neon colored duck calls? From my experience in the Corps and my time in the woods I am really puzzled why anyone would pay $150 for a neon pink and yellow call if they're trying to stay hidden and concealed. Can anyone answer this question for me?

So that the call manufacture can see there calls on people in pictures.  It doesn't make sense.  I have one bright green on and I only purchased it as it sounded great.  I think it's more of a marketing ploy for younger callers.  They must think they look cool.  No different from those hideous brightly colored lanyards that some think are cool looking.

My hand covers half of the call and I haven't even thought ducks or geese have ever payed any attention to the color of my calls. its like buying cars in different colors.

I take model paint, flat black, and paint my calls. Even calls that aren't neon, like a little dr-85, might as well have it not so noticeable.

Probably true, just not to into the bright calls.  I don't paint my hands or wear gloves and I still shoot a few birds.

its like sex toys, they all have to be a little different or else when your groping for them you might mistake one for another. :yike:

I've been hunting ducks for 30yrs and I wonder the exact same thing.

Same reason $50 under armour T-shirts are so popular...it proves you are 'as seen on TV 'tactical.   Besides all the pro star/staffers are wearing it/using it.  When I see an under armour sticker on the back window of a truck or emblem on a badazz hoodie, i know i should bow in their presence for there is a true master hunter ahead.  If I see the prostaff stickers I leave immediately because he's gonna kill every bird within a 5mi radius.
