Mica peak bear down
« on: August 26, 2011, 05:15:40 PM »
Last night..... myself, daughter, good friends Tony and Matt headed out to a spot I have been seeing alot of bears up scouting for whiteys this year. It was a easy hunt and a good one to take my daughter on (her first) as we only had to walk a 100 hundred yards on a logging road and then sit in the shade and watch a hillside with timbered draws and open hillsides as the bears were coming down the hill to start getting into the apple trees down below us at night. We had sat for about 2 hours with nothing moving except a couple of turkeys. Matt spotted a couple deer feeding out to our left and had disappeared behind some trees when my daughter says " Dad theres something..its moving..its black!" I said oh its probably the deer coming out. Matt says its a bear! He was moving fast across the top of the hill... I got the gun positioned and ranged the the bear at 330 yards..he hit a opening and I made a loud sound he stopped broadside and and one shot from the .338 EDGE that Matt let me use for the hunt was all it needed as it dropped in its tracks. Made for a great time with my daughter and good friends on the mountain lastnight..one of my most memorable hunts ever..wasn't the biggest bear I have taken, but the most fun I had out hunting. Thanks for Matt capturing it all on film and the photos ;)
