Using Blinds on Public Hunting Lands - Thoughts?
« on: September 19, 2011, 02:04:48 PM »
I'm getting ready for the 2011 Modern Firearm deer season and I usually hunt on public land. I've been thinking about picking up a ground blind as a new option for this fall. Yet, I'm wondering if a blind is a good idea on public land or if it's a waste of time as others will most likely be in the same region.  Thoughts?
Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate. - Psalm 127:3-5

I just used a ground blind for my elk hunt on public land. I see no problem with it if you have a good spot to sit. If you can find an escape route then I would have no problem sitting in a ground blind and letting the other hunters push the deer to you.  :twocents:

As long as there are no regulations against artificial structures in the area you are hunting then a ground blind is a good option. In my experience they work better if you can leave them in the field for a few weeks prior to the hunt and let the animals get used to them. be aware that there is a chance it could be stolen   :twocents:

I think your odds of it getting stolen is very good. I'd go with some natural cover instead of a pop up.
