Find people are more apt to mess with your vehicle on state or private timber company property than forest service property.

my friend hunted in the goat rocks and was packing a bull back to the trail head loaded up the horses and gear and someone had stole the bateries out of his power stroke and it was midnight they had to sleep in the cab till morning and walk till they got cell signals and wait hours for help

So someone broke in, unlatched the hood, and all they stole were the batteries?  Wierd...Meth heads love batteries!

a $5 deposit that is paid when purchasing a battery.  It is refunded when the battery gets returned for recycling so it isn't tossed into the environment.  Also, heard they clip the lead connectors because they can sell the lead for recycling.

Friends of mine went up a trail at Greenwater for an overnight camp trip & had their rear window broken in and truck contents stolen.  The next weekend he went with a different friend and drove his truck since my buddies wasn't fixed yet. Needless to say the rear window on that truck also got broken in at the trail head.  I would not ever leave a vehicle, best to get dropped off. Mike

I would love to find these dirtbags that break into all these rigs.  Hopefully before they steal the shovel out of the back as I will be using it.
Cut em!

Don't leave anything visible in the truck.  That won't eliminate the chance of a breakin but it recuces it.  Maybe that sounds obvious but people do it every day.  I hear people say their wallet, credit cards, digital camera, .... got stolen from their vehicle at the trailhead, on in their driveway.  Don't leave bait in plain sight.  Last Saturday though, a lot of cars got prowled at trailheads up on the mountain loop highway out of Granite Falls.  Lots of heroin addicts up there looking for a quick buck.
And I think God must be a cowboy at heart
He made wide open spaces from the start
He made grass and trees and mountains and a horse to be a friend
And trails to lead ol' cowboys home again

I’ve lost a tow rope and jumper cables before.  It was my own fault they were in the bed of a pickup with an unlocked canopy, at least they didn’t break any windows or anything.  I do like the trail cam idea though.
