Wells Dam Boat launch?
« on: June 28, 2012, 10:52:48 AM »
Looking for some info about the boat launch closest to Wells Dam near Brewster.  I have fished Brewster a few time and have had a blast but I was wondering if the boat launch right below Wells Dam and that section of the Columbia was OK for a 18 ft Hewes craft with prop to fish at?  I live 3 hours away or I would check it out myself.
Any info would greatly be appreciated.

My father in law fishes there in a 16 ft prop boat. I haven't launched with him in years, but he hasn't had any problems. Hopefully someone with first hand experience will chime in.
PS. I know he watches the flows and dam release, because this will affect the launch site i think.

I would say you could do it for sure but if not there always the launch at chelan falls. I seen plenty of big boats launch there during all water levels. Not alot of room to play with but do able.

From the Douglas PUD website:

Wells Boat Launch CLOSED

Due to public safety concerns with high river flows and debris, the boat launch below the Wells Project will be closed until at least July 16, 2012.  We apologize for this inconvenience.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Launch at the park at Bebee bridge. It's not that long of a run up from there. I use to run that stretch of river in my 18' Smokercraft. Just pay attention to the water and take it easy. I have launched at the Wells dam launch a few times. It's not a problem.
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not!

Just google earthed it, looks like an 8 mile run from the launch at beebe bridge to Wells dam.  Does that sound about right?

yeah the water in the columbia is ridiculously high right now. the launch at wells when its open is no problem to launch out of, my dad and i launch his 20 foot fisher off it all the time.

the run up from bee bee aint bad just pay attention to the wind right there near the bridge, it can get pretty nasty through that section on a windy day

as the crow flies its about 10 miles beebee to wells, river miles  its just under 12
