My best to date...
« on: June 28, 2012, 11:26:51 AM »
Had a buddy want to go out after a sturgeon but he had something come up at the last min.  So, another buddy of mine decided to make it a scouting trip.  The 3rd spot we tried had this fish on in 15 min.  Two hours and almost 2 miles downstream later we got him to the boat.  I've caught a few close to this size but I still can't believe how tough this dude was.  He jumped 10 feet from the boat at the hour mark.

I've always wanted to catch one real big fish, a 14' fish or so and now I'm starting to second guess that....

I didn't get an official legnth on this fish.  I'm going to say he was real close to the 9' mark.....which was smaller than I thought he was going to be.

Good on yah! Nice fish.

Question: When you battle the beast and the go "belly up surrender" how long does it take to let them get their steam back? Do you just keep them horizontal and wait or do they swim away as soon as you flip em?

Would love a trip down to the big C for some oversized.

Nice fish!  I have never caught one that big. 74 inches is my best.

They don't exactly go "belly up surrender".  If you roll them on their back, they just seem to relax and not fight it.  They all are a bit different as how long they need to recover.  Usually they let you know when you get a face full of water.   :chuckle:

Nice fish, it's always fun to have that much fish on the end of the line.   One of my favorite parts is setting the hook on a fish and not knowing if it is 2 or 10 feet until it starts to fight.

Buddy of mine that was supposed to come on the trip where we caught the fish previously posted came down on Wednesday to try for one.  We fished about 4 hours and had a ball.

First fish we landed measured 8'7

then we went back and hooked up again

to a hog of a fish with a walleye rig hanging out of his mouth  :chuckle:  He taped 9'3

Some of you may know this guy.......I'm not sure he appreciates that I told him he kind of has the Chris Farley look going on in this last pic  :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

We ended up catching 4 total, 2 smaller fish between 5-6 feet and these two hogs.....

Nice fish! great pictures as well.
Wish I could fid the picture of my grandfather fishing on the Snohomish river for sturgeon to post here. From the 1920's using a horse for a pole and still calves for bait! Thing was huge.
