Need camping ideas for the OP please!
« on: July 08, 2012, 09:36:55 AM »
Hey, I'm trying to plan out a camping trip out to the peninsula at the end of this month. Anyone have any ideas? looking for a place free or cheap camping, maybe national forest or state land? also proximity to some lake fishing would be good. I haven't been out there hardly at all so if someone could point me in a good direction that would be great!

Hoh oxbow campground is where I spent months at.  There are many DNR campgrounds up and down the Hoh for a wilderness experience that were free.  Prolly need a discover pass now - not sure.

Cast spoons and catch dollys for fun and maybe even catch a steelhead for camp meat.

The only place I can think of that match that description--lake fishing, car, cowboy camping might be Lake Wentworth or Dickey Lake or Big Joe's.  They are north of Forks.  Gates could be an issue for Dickey or Big Joe's depending on how you try to get out there.  Probably won't be very quiet as there's usually a lot of logging in there on weekdays.

sequim bat state park is pretty nice, but you would have to drive to a place to hike and fish, see if there is a place where you can camp at hurricane ridge, there is awesome hiking up there, and there is some really nice creeks a fella could fish in..

that sounds like a good place to start. Summer steelhead goin on over there? I dont have much experience with that area but I hear that river is legendary

There may be a few steelhead in the Oxbow campground, but there are definately dollys around fer shur.  There's enough water around that campground to keep you busy all morning and then evening.

If you never been there, it's like a place outta this word.  Huge mofo trees.  Everything is big over there including the campfires.

Looks cool, how are the mosquitoes usually over there?
