18 inch, 1-7 twist .223 load

Anyone have a good recipe for coyotes? I just had a AR built with a 18 inch, 1-7 twist barrel. I'm guessing its going to require a fairly heavy bullet? Also we are saving fur this year so keep that in mind, I don't want to do any sewing!

not sure on your barrel but the hordany v max gets the job done good!

Try the 69 grain Sierras.  You can go even heavier with that twist, but a buddy swears by the Sierras.  Heaviest I've shot are 60 grainers, but in my 1-9 barrels even 55's shoot good, so that's mostly what I load.

I have an 18" WOA 1-7 barrel and the 69gr sierras the the lightest I would go with.

All the powder manufacturers have online load data for their powders; Ramshot, Hodgdons, etc.  For that heavy a bullet I think Ramshot Tac would be good.  Start at the bottom of the load data, and load 5 rounds, increasing the charge 1/2 grain each 5 to just below the max load.  See what your gun likes best.  My best load seems to come about the middle of the chart.  Be careful in this hot weather, and watch your fired primers for signs of excessive pressure.

55+ for sure. I have had 1:9 1:8 and 1:7. I have really found that a 18" 1:8 works best for me. My 1:7 would not shoot anything under 55 worth crap. Try the 60g nosler paritions mine shot them very well and they should save fur well.

The 77gr MK's work wonders, it really cut back on the number of "Spinners" I got with the 55gr bullets at distance.

What about 65gr sierra matchkings? I have some h335 left over from a couple years ago, think that will be fine?

I'm loading 50gr V-max in everything .224 including a 1-7"- 20" AR-15. A fast twist barrel sounds great for shooting long heavy bullets but with the short magazine the AR has the long bullets have to be seated so deap the ogive is in the case mouth.The 68gr hornady BTHP loaded as long as a mag. will take shot verry well for me but left some large exit holes in the couple of yotes I shot with them.

I'm guessing you mean the 69 grain MK. Yes those should work just fine as long as you understand they will, at times, not expand or tumble.
Other bullets that work; Nosler 60 grain BT, Hornaday 75 Amax, Sierra 65 grain BTSP.

my pet .223 load is a 52gr bthp, with 22gr of IMR4198, makes my mini14 shoot 1/2" groups
