Frog Toggs
« on: August 13, 2008, 08:03:26 PM »
Has anyone used this as rain gear in the backcountry.  Is it durable enough and quiet enough to make it through a ten day wilderness hunt.  I have smartwool bottoms and microtex pants/shirt and Underarmour fleece.  I just need something to keep me dry.  I do not want to spend a ton of money.  The pro action camo suit is 59.99.

I would beware of these for west side wet weather and brush. They are pretty light duty...

Not durable.  They'll get ripped to shreds if you're walking through any brush at all.  Good for fishing from a boat though.

Great to throw in a pack for an emergancy type of garmet but too light to count on for days of hunting.  I do like the set I have.... for the money they've been great.

Frog Toggs are Junk for hunting!  You will get wet.  Tried them before they lasted about ten minutes of going through brush..  Thought what a great ideal as a back up for a sheep hunt, yea right crap, crap, crap they are.  Helly Hansen Impertech is the best hands down rain gear, if your looking for actual rain gear.  Gortex leaks, don't care which type it is sooner or later.  Dry-Plus same thing, sooner or later.  Rivers West also crap... I did a lot of trying different stuff in some of the worst weather possible and always went back to the Helly Hansen Impertech rain gear (Notice it is not called wet weather gear, but Rain Gear).  Lighter weight than the boat stuff, not noisy, durable as heck and does what it is supposed to, keep you dry, but if your moving alot, you'll sweat from under, so it is a trade off....  3/4 jacket are great, they cover areas down to above the knee.  No camo color that I know of, is also a draw back for some, but they do have an olive green...  Add a Grundens water proof shirt with neoprene collar and sleeves over something fleece or wool and you can almost white water raft without any fear of getting wet..... Used that combo for a float trip and was dry everyday during 45 degree temperature down pours for six out of eight days... Stay dry, stay alive....  Not too bad on cost either...
