My new backstop
« on: July 12, 2012, 02:37:33 PM »
I just finished my new archery backstop for my backyard!  Now I can practice all I want (at 20 yards)!!!  :IBCOOL: I've tested it from 10 feet, the arrow sank to the fletchings but stopped there.  From the 20 yard mark, the arrow stops after about 6 inches is through.  I won't be shooting from any closer than 20 yards, so I figure I'm good and everyone is safe.  The backstop area is 5X5 feet, and I will be suspending the 3X3 target in the center with a 1 food boarder all the way around.

From 20 yards...

Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”

An old conveyor belt from a wood grinder.  Basically a big@$$ mudflap.  It's the same thing the Seattle gun club uses as backstops on their 3D course.

They work really well. Silver Arrow Bowmen has started ading them to the back side of thier straw bail targets so that when they get really shot up you don't blow all the way through and loose an arrow.  They are on all the targets on the flat range and work really well. they work best just hanging so that the weight helps dampen the impact... Good use of belting.
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

I still have a good amount of conveyor belt material left if anyone has a use for it.

How thick is it and how many feet do you have?  Looks to be about 3' wide?

it's about 1/4 inch thick and i think 3 feet wide.  My backstop is 5 feet wide and you can see that it overlaps.  I have a pretty good size roll of the stuff, enough to make 1-2 more backstops this size.  If I stand at like 10 feet and shoot it my arrows will go through to the fletchings, but from 20 yards they stop after a couple inches.

Fishstiq,

I'll take 8-10 feet if you have any left.  I can probably pick it up sometime this week.  I've just been using an old piece of hanging carpet but is not the best.

Awesome offer.
