There isn't always a winter crab season on the Hood Canal, last year they didn't have one because of an exceptional harvest in the summer season.

"Winter" crab starts after Labor Day in areas that have a "winter" season.  They set the season to go to the end of September here in Area 7 South, but after Labor Day you have to switch cards, slick trick there butt-heads....

I believe it's different months depending on the area too. My area I thought was later, gotta check the regs. All I know is there's so much red rock being caught that they usually open it up automatically for winter season. We seem to have a banner crop of dungies this year too. Watched 6 get pulled from the pier I go to. Never saw a single one last season, and these were all 9+ers.
