All color phased??
« on: July 24, 2012, 01:05:47 PM »
I've had my trail cams set up in my bear area and have seen 13 different bears and ALL are blonde/cinnamon. Anybody have a rhyme or reason why I can't find a black bear?  :dunno: (diet, weather temperatures, genetics?)

Those color phase are a dime a dozen. You are right......the all black are the hard ones to find. Maybe you need to let me in on where this bear bonanza is so I can thin the gene pool a bit. We'll do that for a few years then see if any of the black ones move in. What do you think?

This year in Winthrop I have seen 3 Cinnamon 1 blond (small bear) and 2 black bears. The black bear I watched Saturday night was a really nice bear and is 1st on my list come Aug. 15th.

Ya, its kind of strange though. I have laid eyes on 2 sows with cubs that are easily 275-300+ and three boars that will go over 300, all are cinnamon. And it is a westside unit so I'd like to take a black one as well, just havent seen any. Theres gotta be something to it, because last year I didnt see any blacks either. Maybe its a question for a biologist. And D Rock, no complaining here  :) I'll have no problem shooting 2 colored bears if they feel like catching lead.... Hopefully I'll have some pictures to show come the opener.

Here's a pic of mama and cubs
