At bi mart you can get a savage 111 with the 3x9 nikon prostaff for 429.00, you can get the remington 700 adl for 389.00 with a cheap remington scope on it. i just think out of the box performance the savage is better. it has the accu stock, accu trigger and a drop floor plate. both guns will shoot good but the remington needs some work. change the stock, scope and the trigger on the remington and i would take it but you are looking a more money. as for the vanguard its a good shooter but still had to have the trigger done on it and the stock free floated by my gunsmith.

where on the site did you go to find the savage with prostaff scope. all i see is the savage with bushnell scope and its for $379 but it doestnt say whether it has the accu trigger/accu stock.

i think it might be an instore deal. i havnt seen it on there website either.

Your right its an instore deal i just called them up but its actually $479 not $429 but still its best deal out for that model . i been searching around and everywhere else sells them 500-700

Look up your gun at www.gunbroker.com or www.lowpriceguns.com They're in Bellevue. There are some good deals if you wanna stay away from those high priced stores. I never, ever buy guns from local stores.

:) different strokes!!?? I ALWAYS buy from small gun stores and locals. Go to Elma, go to east county guns, buy a Tikka, you will be happy and a small business will stay open!! :chuckle: I pay a few dollars more with pleasure to keep small gun stores open.

For out of the box accuracy I'd get a savage. And I'd buy it in whatever acceptable caliber my store of choice has in stock.

The guys at lowpriceguns are pretty cool, but they don't have a ton of stuff at the store. So make sure if you go that way to order it ahead of time before you drive all the way up there.

I used to buy all my new guns online from Bud's, but lately they have been higher than some of the locals.  I bought an X-bolt at Wholesale Sports and saved $50 over Bud's, even with the sales tax.  They still have some good deals but they're not automatically the cheapest any longer.

cant go wrong with the remington 700. It shoots great right out of the box...  Never had any need for anything other than a remington... As far as the trigger pull on a remington you can adjust it with a small screw driver if its too stiff and there is nothing wrong with the stock.. I bought a 700 in 300 rum in 05 went to the range to break in the barrel once i shot a box through it i was touching holes at 100 yards everytime... I have yet to see savage do that!

...........that's because you don't have a Savage. :chuckle:

If you guys had the choice of picking up a ss rifle would you guys over a regular barrel rifle? I know that cost would play a big part but would it be worth the extra $$? like comparing the 116 to the 111 savage. how much would putting a ss barrel on later cost, and what are the benefits of ss over standard. reason im asking is because i like ss and if theres no difference but price then id rather go with a standard.

Ain't local enough. I can still buy them cheaper online, plus no gas to buy...and not driving more than a hundred miles + to buy a gun

if you want ss i would just buy the rifle in it. the 116 trophy hunter xp is a very nice rifle. the cost of having a gunsmith put a barrel on can get expensive in a hurry. i have seen the 116 go for a pretty good price at cabelas and wholesale sports, but right now at buds gun shop ( an online store) you can get that rifle in 7mm stainless steel with a 3x9 nikon with bdc for 551.00.

At least I didn't say "cheap ". You still get the factory warrenty and Walmart has nothing to do with that or service .. :)
