Too early to know for sure.  Pray for some rain is what I would be saying.  I had the tag last year and it was closed.  I had a good time on state land which is always open.

I haven't heard of it being closed, YET.

The best thing to do is call the access hotline:  1-866-636-6531

The state land isn't always open. At least it wasn't in 2001, when I had an archery bull tag for the Toutle. Weyerhaeuser had the road going into the state land closed, with a guard sitting at the gate. They wouldn't even let me walk in to the state land.

We need some cooler weather for sure. If this weather keeps up WEYCO will have us looked out for the opener. They always seem to do that right as it is time for season to open.

Yes, you are correct. I thought about checking into what it would cost to have a helicopter drop me off on the state land and leave me for a week.

Prepare for the hunt as though Weyerhauser land will be closed.  Think the worst hope for the best you'll never be disappointed

Wow, first Elk hunt and you drew a Toutle tag.   Looks like you are doing pretty good so far, hopefully the season only gets better.

Make sure that the toutle tag has the same dates as the general season. Might be 3 1/2 weeks to go :)
In God we trust, all others bring cash.

Do not say, Why were the old days better than these? For it is not wise to ask such questions.

The good thing is that the Toutle archery permit now has an early season and a late season. When I had the permit in 2001 there was only the early season, so I didn't get to hunt at all.

Now if the woods are closed for the early season, you still have the late season as a back up plan.
