no winston elk
« on: August 19, 2012, 06:24:18 PM »
just got back from scouting and what a disapointment that was. saw 2 elk in the secret spot, all the antlerless permits have killed that area,i hunt bow and always seen a ton of elk in the area,no trails , scat, tracks, just nothing. just venting my frustration with wdfw. maybe oregon next year.

I hear ya! I went through that area briefly last season during modern and there were more hunters than trees! I'm scouting other areas right now and leaving the Winston to the crowds!
That wasn't me! It was a black Camaro! It went that way!

Are you guys scouting the Weyerhauser land????
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

I have had the same problem in the Winston this year. All the places I saw elk last year are dead.

I saw 10 or 12 herds last thursday.  Im gonna guess close to 150 elk total.  Saw a couple bulls that were pretty nice.  It seemed to me that there were elk everywhere.

I know a spot, I can go sit with a spotting scope in the evenings, and probably see up to 200 head..  They are like rats in some places, just appearing out of nowhere..

Sure hope there's some elk left in the Winston. I'll be hunting there from October 6th to the 12th with my muzzleloader. Pretty sure we will get some rain by then, and Weyerhaeuser will have it open for access.

Bobcat that muzzy tag is a fun hunt.

I hope so! Someone I talked to who had the same permit last year never even saw an elk until the last day, and didn't get a shot at those.
