tips on shooting out of a boat

any of you ex military guys(or not) have any techniques on shooting out of a boat? and yes i no the law and will follow it.

Don't use a bipod as a rest.  Use a pack, coats or a blanket instead.

Shotgun, rifle, bow?  If the vessel is under power all weapons have to be unloaded.  Some areas require the boat to be anchored in order to shoot.  If your using a rifle I would make sure to get the bow into the wind or into the current and pick a rest.  Life jacket, seat location and time the shot between the movements of the boat.

Experiment. Go find a place to shoot from a boat, and try out different things.

why is that?
this can actually be a very productive way of hunting. i shot a 145" muley from a boat that we were oaring along the banks of a lake. i just put a jacket over the windshield and rested on that. the water was calm and wind was not an issue.

With a name like Sirmissalot, I'm guessing he's not a very good shot on land...nevermind out of a boat.

Run it up on to the bank and wait until the water that follows recedes back behind you.
If that isn't an option....lots of practice, try using a tight sling and getting the rythym of the waves.

Just not as great when it's a live animal and my heart starts to beatin!

I'm no expert on shooting from a boat, just thought it sounded like a horrible idea that's all. Boats move an awful lot for any longer shots. I know people do though, those fricken navy seals did it in the ocean into some pirate heads so it's apparently possible! And if  bullblaster shot a 145 inch muley doing it... Clearly it's not a horrible idea

This isn't a shot many people in the military are going to practice generally most of the Navy ships have more firepower than any one man can hope to weld.  As far as the Seals making that shot it was off of a hell of allot bigger boat than you will be hunting in therfore giving considerebly more stability still a great shot, but not as challenging as what you will be doing I don't think depending on the range.  Good luck though I have heard of some guys accessing some cool area's by boat, and getting some nice critters.

The buck I killed was a 90 yard shot at a bedded buck with a muzzy. I could only see neck and head. It was my turn to shoot so I aimed and shot just like any other shot. Take all conditions out of your mind and focus on aiming and breaking the shot. The buck just laid his head Down at the shot and was done.

For some one shooting out of a boat for the first time only suggestion is to practice a lot! You'll be lucky the first time if you have a chance to shot a deer from the boat! Just practice and if you don't have the resources to do that, than I would not take that Unethical shot!
