My First Deer/667
My boyfriend left for a hunting trip to Montana on Friday, so his cousin took me hunting Saturday out to vail.
At bout 10AM we spotted a nice 2pt in a clear cut. He was standing broadside staring right at us. I raised my rifle to get ready to shoot and i was so shaky i couldn't even find him. So we inched our way forward and i laid down and propped my gun up on a stump. I ended up making a perfect shot! Dropped my first deer in his tracks at about 100 yards. We went over to take a look and after i seen him, I was so excited i didn't know how to feel.. i cried a little. Tears of joy though! I helped him clean the deer up and i got to learn a lot about how to properly do it all. We carried him out of there to the truck and headed home.. He even stayed and helped skin him.. Took him out to the butcher today, the meat alone weighed out to be 103lbs. Made me feel good.
I am extremely thankful for him taking me out there to help me get my first deer.
Thanks again cem3434 for such an amazing first experience :)
Hunt hard, shoot straight, kill clean and apologize to no one!

My brother shot this buck yesterday evening just before dark. Rained hard all day but we stuck with it and got rewarded.

Got my first buck opening day of late season in 117, thanks to DBHawthorne. He knows what the deer are thinking before they do! Just got a call tonight from Eggers that my meat is ready and Randy Steele is doing the mount for me.

Rifle is a AR in .300 Blackout that I built for the occasion. I think I walked around in a daze for about 10 minutes after the shot! It was a ton of hard work (before AND after), but it was all worth it! Still stoked every time I think about it!

Before

After

I don't think I've gone more than ten minutes without looking at the pictures!

Glad to see that your are using Randy Steele as your taxidermist
. He is all I would recommend. He is currently working on my archery buck.

Well 6 nights in the blues paid off. My dad and I had a great 6 days in the mountains. Rut activity was kind of sporadic. Seems like alot of smaller bucks were rutting their tails off and the bigger boys were still skiddish. I think alot depends on the deer itself/elevation etc. He made a great shot on the big 1 early in the week taped him at 21" outside spread. One of the biggest straight up 4x4s I've seen in person.I jumped a gnarly looking nontypical on the second to last day out of some crp and he proceeded to run away at mach speed. Needless to say I missed on him.I ended up passing up on a few nice 5x5s and 5x4s waiting for a stud like his but was happy to connect on a meat buck on our last night. Just got done with a backstrap and an egg as a matter of fact  ;)  Great to see all the success this year for the members this year
