west yakima area hunting
« on: September 18, 2012, 02:19:01 PM »
So... at the moment im running up and down the hills on west of yakima right now and i do not see a single soul around. Anyone have a suggestions on some other places around here? If i dont get anything today ill probably go around some more tomorrow somewhere else. I live around tacoma by the way so if there are any spots closer to the west side that would be great!

How did you get up in that area.  Most of it is on fire and closed.  Therefore that is why you aren't seeing anyone.  Questions for you would be what are you hunting for?

I would guess deer since it is in the Deer section. :chuckle:
Yeah where are you at around Yakima? As Russ said most of it is closed.

I would suggest hunting deer in any other part of the state... Yakima area is the worst deer hunting in the state, don't know why anyone would be that far from home to hunt here?  also, what parts of yakima are closed I have not heard this?

I would go to this link http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,104809.0.html this would give you all the information you need on closures and links to where the fires are.  If you planning on hunting up there is good information to look at for closures.

I also had not heard of closures in Rimrock or Cowiche.

That area is probably a good place to hunt deer, if you like nice scenery with few hunters. As others have said, it's about the worst place in the state if you are looking for deer.

I know where the fires in bethel and goose prairie are, so you were talking about the american ridge and possibly road 1500 (don't know if it's closed or not)?

I'm not trying to be a dick I just honestly don't see what you are referring too and looking through the pages on the other thread which I have been, I don't see where any general closures are, like areas above ellensburg.

A really good place to start is in the regs at harvest reports from previous seasons. Then look and make sure it's open to general hunting(not special permit). Once you've established an accessible area google earth will give some help. From there it's all about wearin out tires and boots. A lot of glassing and walking. You're not in a horrible area, just need to try looking in different spot with some purpose. Just walking around isn't going to yield a hole lot of deer.

Good luck.
What would life be without the thrill of the hunt?
