Longview Sturgeon 8-23-08
« on: August 23, 2008, 08:16:31 PM »
A few of us got together for some sturgeon fishing on the Columbia today. Coho and Mitch came from up North and met Iceman and I at Martin Way and I5 at 5 am for the drive down South. After a couple quick stops for breakfast and bait we were heading across the bridge to the launch. Within a few minutes were were heading out and after a short run we were dropping anchor and casting lead.

The weather was great and the water was flat. There were tons of boats out in front of the Cowlitz fishing for steelhead, but we had no competition for sturgeon. After a short wait a rod started bouncing and I quickly landed the smallest fish of the day and possible the smallest ever in Coho's boat. Everyone was able to get in on the action but we could not hook a keeper to save our lives.

Below are a few pics and I am sure a few more will be added later.

Did you notice Billythekidrock smiling? I did, so everyone that didn't think he smiles, your wrong, he does..   Iceman has wicked cherry home brew, wow!  Learned new way to eat oranges and cherries....  A great time, great folks, had a blast..   We actually caught 25 or so Sturgeon...  Not a keeper in the nursery, we must have been in the kiddy pool at the day care facility, hung till school was over but mom and dad Sturgeon never showed....

i think bone caught one smaller the day we were out, and when he set the hook he almost ripped the poor baby fish's face off.

So what kind of lunch did Iceman serve on the boat today?  :chuckle: Did he bring a pie with him? He always seems to have something.  :chuckle:

How did you know?  Smoked it like nothing else....  All the internal gear stops went away....  Problem was it was the same reel that I got the bigger over sized the prior couple trips....  Reel was toated.  Do you work at Cabelas?

Perhaps...  ;) The tall guy you talked to is my good buddy also. He was sitting here as I viewed the thread, and was like "I helped those guys today".  :chuckle: I think I must have been at lunch when you guys were in the store.

I'll tell you what he was a great help, had to exchange the reel, he searched and found what I was looking for, switched the line I had on the reel to the new and was extremely friendly...  Told me what was on sale and just was good at what he did.........Outstanding customer service........

Thanks for posting guys! We had a great time.

Special thanks to Cohoho for offering up the boat and skippering for the day. Really strange to hook up with some guys I had never met, yet really felt like I had known them for a long time. Really fun. Nice people.

I promised that if Cohoho hangs a Bar-b-Que on the side of his beautiful boat, I will cook up some great eats!  I was thinking oysters on the half shell, some venison/duck shishkabobs and maybe throw on some smoked elk sausage.... :EAT:  Now you know why I am sporting that double chin... :chuckle:

Also, found out that Cohoho's name has nothing to do with Xmas or Santa Claus!
