You dont need a big winch.  Lot of guys run small one on sammy.  Remember your sammy is all about lightweight.  Keep it that way.  Warn 8274 is great but heavy and big.  Smitty is good and cheap and light.  Small warn or smitty would be my choice with reversible front/rear mounts.  A snatch block works wonders too.  Too big and someguy will want you to pull his heavy cummins out!!!

When were you up there last  :dunno:

Late spring I was up there on my bike and there was a track hoe making the trail nasty again. The guys were moving boulders in to the traila nd digging new rabbit holes in the bottom trail section  :bash: :bash: :bash:

I did see the note for line out and notice the reduced weight of pull notes. That is why I jumped up to the 8k or 8500k. I was looking at a nice 6k but after reading threw it I thought it would be better to go a little bigger.

I have been around and snapped more then one cable and chain. Not fun!!!! That's what happen when you live and work the farm as I do. I learned a long time ago about the blanket trick. I will never pull anything without one. I would for sure have one for the winch.

I did look at the syn ropes as well. That 6k that I was thinking about had one loaded in it. The problem was it's only like 55' where the cable winches are almost 100'

I have 100 yards of rope used on a chainsaw winch to pull critters out of the canyons. I plan on being able to use the winch on the Sammy to get the job done. Just put half hitches in the rope every 90' or so to yard them out.

I should not say I am 100% dumb to winches we do have one we use in the shop all the time to load the ranch rigs and lift our critters up. As far as on rigs, I have not been around them and that is why I am asking you folks that know what you are talking about

Both super and smitty are built in china. Only reason i'm runnnig one is cause it ws on my jeep. WHEN it craps out I will replace with Warn.

Didnt have time to read much, so not exactly sure what your application is and the main purpose, but I would recommend a warn.  I put my xd9k through the works, even picking up my jeep off the ground.  Worked everytime I and my buddies needed it.
picking up this pig was a work out but it didnt over heat and continued to pull when I pushed the button.

Sorry I misspoke, not smitty but superwinch.  We have been running 3500superwinch on quads and they have been better then the warns.  Not saying warns no good either, they are good.  My last one was warn8272 on toyota and is was great but front heavy.

The problem with the 8274 Warn is that even when new they draw 560+ amps. Neither of the ones you list provide the amperage draw at full rated line pull. I like that they are series wound and not permanent magnet motors. Solenoids do go out on just about every brand. I can't stant haus fareleads. Roller all the way, but I've never used one with synthetic line. Two things I've always said... buy more gun safe than you think you'll ever need. Buy a bigger winch than you think you'll ever need. You can always transfer a winch to a bigger rig. If the Sami doesn't have dual batteries or a 100amp alternator, stay away from the high amp draw winches. But, in favor of the 8274, there will always be parts for them. I don't like the clutch brake on them though. I hope you would research a little more and find a winch of size within budget that has a worm gear for lower amp draw on the motor, more strength than planetary gears, and will work as the best brake you can get in a winch. Most tow trucks use Ramsey electric or  some use Ramsey hydraulic winches. They last. I have had a Ramsey RE10,000 winch for some 20 years and have used the snot out of it. Still pulls hard as ever.

I know.. not reference to the two winches you list, but as was said... even a good come-a-long is a bonus for a light Sami. -Still, I'd opt for roller farelead, if that has bearing on which winch of your choices to choose.

What'a wrong with a 6000 lb winch from Harbor Freight?  If you'r worried about the Sammy weighing too much, get a snatch block, too.

Get a snatch block anyway. You will NEVER be able to pull the right direction. It just seems to work out like that every single darn time!
