Bumping Goat w/ Pics attached
« on: October 03, 2012, 12:22:43 PM »
We headed into Nelson Ridge via the Pear Butte Trail. We camped the 1st night a couple miles below Bismark Peak. That evening we had enough time left to do a little glassing before dark. We ended up glassing up two lone billys and planned to return in the morning and get a closer look. The following morning we were out glassing until early afternoon and weren't able to find either billy. So we decided to head over to the east side of Nelson Ridge. Shortly after reaching the ridge we saw a lone billy bedded and watched him for about an hour before he stood up giving us a good look at his head gear. Soon has he stood and we got a good look at his horns we knew that we need to try and take him. He quickly bedded back down after stretching his legs. So I headed down the ridge to get a better shot angle. As I came over the ridge top he stood giving me a broadside shot. After the shot he ran down the little finger ridge he was on and out of sight he went. We watched the bottom of the drainage and he didn't come out so we figured he must be down. As we slow crept our way down towards him I caught a glimpse of white out of the corner of my eye. There he was looking at me 40 yards away. After a few more shots to the boiler room he was down. Boy they can suck up some lead!

He exceeded my expectations and has 9 1/4" horns and a beautiful coat. It was an awesome hunt in some great country. Thanks to all you that helped me out on this hunt of a lifetime!
