What should I do?
« on: October 08, 2012, 07:18:47 PM »
Just got off the phone with my hunting partner. He jacked up his knee this weekend playing soccer! Has a dr. Appointment Wednesday to see how bad it really is. I already lost one partner (just had twins) and his daughter has open heart surgery this week. Now what to do? Head out by myself or try to get a new guy to head out with me?  :dunno:

You could do both  :dunno: If nobody can hunt with you, go anyway.

Solo is the only way to fly.  It is nice to have help on the pack out though.  Good luck.

I was in the same boat last year.   I went anyway and actually stopped in a couple of camps in my area to explain my situation and see if I could get some help if I connected. I was making day trips about a mile and a half in. Everyone was on board, one camp gave me their radio channel they stayed on to call if need be.  They would call at night to make sure I was out alright.
Going solo takes a little extra planning but you will be glad you went.  I wouldn't grab someone new that may ruin your hunt. Mike

Let someone know where your at, head out in areas you know and be smart about what you do. You will be fine. I hunt on my own. Biggest complaint sometimes its boring on your own.

Appreciate the input. Thanks! I am headed out to do some scouting. I have an archery tag for deer that I didn't fill, so no dear hunting this weekend for me with the rest of the circus  :chuckle:

I always preffered to hunt alone while out in the field, but it was always nice to have another set of hands in camp for the down time. Make sure you have enough gear to spend the night out, just in case something happens.

Sounds like you need to tell your buddies to stop playing games at the wrong time of year (soccer in the fall and it sounds like unprotected bedroom games in between December and April).  I do hope for the best for your partner's daughter with the surgery.

If you have to hunt alone so be it.  I wouldn't try to get into anything other than a day hunt or two with a new person right out of the gate. :twocents:
