Oregon Success!
« on: October 05, 2012, 07:50:09 PM »
Had another fun time at the farm hunting deer this year. I went back to my favorite spot near the timber watching the CRP in the higher part of our place. Deer seem to get bumped off the low ground and head for the timber on opening morning. First animals I see are two cow elk doing what I just described. Lots of bugling and whistling going on from many bulls screaming back and forth. After an hour of this, and only seeing two muley does and the two cow elk, I became weak and just had to wander over to the CRP draw all the screaming was coming from to take a gander at the bulls. When I was just about there, I see 8 deer moving across the CRP heading for the timber, where I just was. Looking threw the binos, I see 4 of the 8 are bucks, nothing huge, but surely bucks. I cant cut them off, as they will be in the timber before I could get to where a shot could be taken. So, I decide to loop around to them in the timber. Plan worked. The deer were slowly making their way down across the other side of a shallow draw in the timber. I find a good shooting lane, and look over the deer. I picked out a nice looking fork horn, settle the cross hairs tight behind the shoulder.... POW......WHACK!  The buck dropped where he stood. as I watch threw the scope, I see four legs sticking straight out, stiffly, and as they soon relaxed, I knew the Lord had given me a full freezer. He is a classic looking little mule deer, and I am very thankful for a fine deer.    First pic, is as he lays.
