Colockum Antlerless Muzzy tag filled!
« on: October 07, 2012, 08:48:55 AM »
So me and my son aka Buglin4bulls got up to the Colockum yesterday morn at about 7:30am. We spotted a couple cows running across the road in front of us about two hundred yards, so I parked the truck and we took off on foot. Bulls were screaming in numerous locations as we hiked looking for a big fat cow. Got up on some elk bedded but they were a little to far out for the smoke pole to reach so we kept hiking and glassing. Finally my son saw a lone cow bedded at about 360yds so we backed out and were going to come at a different angle. Started working down to find the best route to put the sneak on when the woods erupted with elk. My son cow called and two cows stopped at about 75yds and gave me a shot between two pine trees. I squeezed the trigger, smoke was in the air and she went about 30yds and fell over! She even had a tag in her ear so kinda cool I will get the history of her. Great hunt and even better to have my son with me during the hunt. Back home and in the cooler by 6:00pm, Good times.   Shooting a knight bighorn with Williams peep and 275 grain Bloodlines = deadly!

Sorry had to post again because my kid logged in on my computer under his name and wasn't aware. So here it is again.

So I got the report from wdfw... This particular cow has been captured twice and radio collared down in the agricultural land for harming farmers fences/land. She was missing a ivory so I asked why, he said they take one upon capture to get the age/health of the elk. So anyway she was 7 years old and in good health and to enjoy.  Pretty cool and a good guy to talk to.  Ended up weighing 265 lbs hanging

I killed my cow by 10am opening morning. Tried to help the muzz tag bull holder but we got busted at the last minute. He was holding out for a big one.  Wow did it get cold up there but no table mt smoke was great.  We are very lucky they opened coleman canyon east or it could of been hard.  I did come across 3 dead cow elk shot within 100yds and called yak region 3 but they said it was probably a hunter shooting into a group of elk and then weeding out what they wanted to take. Likely a bull

Colockum ridge road? We saw 2 there, one was 50 feet from main road.

Wounder if he was holding out just for opening day? We saw a spike hanging up by 4 corners Sunday, I thought it strange but chalked it up for the bull permit holder or ? Did see the sheriff heading that way.

Wife banged her cow Monday , actually seen allot of elk.  :)
