Effects of all this warm weather on blacktail rut?
« on: October 07, 2012, 10:46:55 PM »
Although my season is all but over, I was hit with a curious thought. While driving to Aberdeen today my girlfriend and I were discussing how we are both ready for some rain when it hit me. What, if any, are the effects of all this warm dry weather on blacktails? Will it push up/back their normal mating process.

I am just guessing that this weather is unusual for the animals as well and that is why I ask.

I am hoping for rain so some of the closed land gets reopened for all you modern hunters and good luck this season.

Rut is dictated by photo period.  Shorter days bring it on.  Could be 100 degrees but if the day is short enough, the rut will start

 :yeah:
But I have also seen bucks go into the rut with a sudden snap of really cold weather.  If I remember correctly, last year the blacktail rut was the last week of October and it was nice, warm, sunny weather.
