Pouring down rain!

When it is pouring down rain, where do you find your game?...In the middle of the road or hunkered down under a tree? :dunno:

I seem to notice that blackies are out in the open during the rain. At least I have seen plenty in the open when it's raining  :dunno:

Usually right along the forest service roads, they like to come in and lick the salted roads. :chuckle:

I let the game find me. Ive been taught (and proven) that when it rains, the deer stay moving because they cant hear with the rain falling on the leaves and brush and trees. They'll see me before they hear me. So I've learned to sit still and let them come to me. Which is why I'll be in a treestand opening day!

They definitely should be moving this weekend.  With this being the first good rain of the year.  I wouldn't be surprised if quite a few get it at daylight in the clearcuts.  I have a couple of thick places next to 4-5 year old clearcuts that i'm going to still hunt into.

Blacktails NEVER seem to be predicable. Every damn time i think I get a read on them, they change their habit. I have seen them hunkered down under shelter, moving and even laying in an open pasture getting rained on.

That being said, when it's POURING down rain, I usually stay under cover to keep myself dry, which also helps me move a little more quietly.

The blackies I see seem to like to be out if it is drizzly/light rain or windy, but if a combo of good wind and rain--like that jack fir.

I have yet to see a mature blacktail in the open on opening weekend during daylight hours. I'll be hunting the high country looking for a bedded buck to stand and shake off. A lot of dinks will be killed tomorrow in clearcuts.
