10 Point Buck (Edited 5x5)
« on: October 16, 2012, 03:08:50 PM »
Well I am new to hunting in Washington this is my first year. I got my first bear a few weeks back, and this was my first deer hunt since I was 17. I'm now 30 :yike: I'll cut right to the chase.... opening day in a 3 point or better unit it's starting to get late and I'm packing up my gear to head back to camp and here comes 2 bucks right at me. I'm on one knee loading up my pack with my gun resting on my little stool. The 2 bucks get to about 40 yards out and up hill from me. I reach for my gun and stand up at the same time. Both deer obviously see me and put the brakes on HARD. One lets out that high pitch squeal they do and the other grunts at me. BOOM I let one go out the -06. The big buck spins right and disappears and the other trots off. Immediately my buddies dad hits me up on the radio "was that you"? I tell him Yup I think I have one down. He was back at camp working on his buck he got that morning. I wait awhile put the head lamp on and start zig zagging up the hill. Takes about 2 minutes and there he is I hit him right behind the left front shoulder and the bullet did not exit. It was lodged just beneath the hide in front of the right shoulder. Got both lungs and exploded the heart. Took my shot 6 minutes before legal shooting hours ended for the day. This is about half of the crazy story of that day. Just before this I had a doe, $hit you not walk by me no farther than 5 feet away. So I was all jacked up from that when these two bucks showed up. To say the least I am loving life right now!
