Willapa Bay 8/28 (PICS)
« on: August 28, 2008, 07:43:30 PM »
Fished Willapa Bay today. Got on the water around 6:30am and we had a fish in the boat by 8am. My buddy Lyle got the first fish that scaled out at 18lbs after it was bled. A couple hours later my rod goes off, and I get a nice fish that went 14lbs. Both fish were hens and had sea lice all over them. We had two other short strikes that didn't hook up. We were off the water at about 2pm. We were just trolling a fish flash and herring. Everyone told us we needed purple label herring, but we had two bites on blue label and two bites on green label, and caught a fish on each.

Nice!!!!!!!
Willapa is about the only fishery that I haven't tried yet but have always wanted to.  Do you fish it similar to Gray's Harbor (off of John's River) With fish flash's, herring and lead on a dropper?  I would run down there this weekend or next week if I knew what I was doing.   :P

I have never fished off the John's, but that is how we (and everybody else) were rigged up.

Haha! I have three days off next week too, but I will hopefully be posting a pic of a buck on the ground.

Good luck out there. It was pretty slow it seemed. Not a ton of nets flying, but enough to keep it interesting.

Nope. They are making me work 5 days in a row... :chuckle: Looks like I am hunting Monday and Tuesday in the afternoon, hunting all day Wednesday, fishing on Thursday if our game plan works out, and then hunting deer/scouting for elk on friday.  :IBCOOL:
