Blacktails

I am hunting an area that has at least 3 bucks in it. I have a blind setup, near alder groves, good brush, etc... My question is, during the middle of the day is it worth my time to walk around a bit, or will I be possibly just scaring off the bucks that are there? I have read that Blacktail bucks rut in the same area every year, and that they dont live in an area larger than about 2 square miles there whole life. With as thick as the brush can be in spots, I am hesitant. Just some advice is appreciated.

I would say that if you are set-up in a spot with lots of fresh traffic sign, and have the patience to, and the wind isn't an issue, sitting there all day is the way to go. They will eventually come by your location in their travels and you aren't risking pushing them out of the area by walking around.

Blacktails move more in the middle of the day anyway so staying put is the best idea.

Here is a good example what went down for me last year ...I have been hunting the same to bucks for a couple years now and last year I entered the area at the 1st week of rifle season ..I did not see much sign ..but I knew they were there..about the second week I started seeing rubs and more sign and some of the same trees that have been rubbed in previous years have now been refreshed ...So I kept going back and hanging out in this area...sometimes in the morning or sometimes in the evening ...Still have not seen the bucks I was after ...So now comes the last week of the modern season and now I have repeated my plan several times threw the season ...Keeping persistant and not giving up ...On the last day Oct.31 ST I decide to go one more time and I walk up the same grade at about 11:30 AM and at about 12:30 I enter my area slowly ..Stopping and just scoping out the area ..I take about 3 more steps and notice a very fresh rub to my left ..seriously fresh ! As I turn to leave I look to my right and
There he is broadside
I lay the crosshairs behind the shoulder and BOOOOOOOM ..night night ...dropped in his tracks .....270 140 gr hornaday Interloc...
Keep at it because it is only getting better day by day
As a matter of fact we are headed in there as soon as my son gets out of school today ...Maybe we get lucky and see the big boy I am after ...Not that the one I killed last year was small but the other is walter

You just can't quit... It is so hard to get a large black tail buck, unless he is in ruttttt... Some people will get one here and there but,not many people have got allot of the big ones... stick with your plan... let us know how it all works out...good luck...

Went out yesterday, to still hunt until 4, had to go to the sounders game.
Sat all day in my blind, enjoying the little birds and all the funny little wildlife that the woods has to offer. Funny little creatures. Didnt see anything. I make my way to the road I walk to my truck. Sure enough, walking down the road, easy, but still moviing along, I jumped a buck, didnt see all of him, but caught the horns in the light, before he dissapeared into some lodge pole fir, not to be seen again. By the way a crow flys this is only about 300 yds from the blind I was hunting. So, all in all a very good day, and learning more and more everytime I go out about this ghost. No meat yet, but positive things.

Blacktail huntin is alot like steelhead fishin! More time spent doin it usually results in meat! But there is always the lucky people that just have the magic touch!
