Crazy opener
« on: October 18, 2012, 09:21:11 AM »
Had an intresting opener after packing in 3.5 miles on Friday I made my way to my spot in the dark sat. morning after seeing a few does moving through the basin I was in, I glanced up hill and noticed movement up hill from me at 15 yard, as I turned around this Cat jumped up on a Boulder. After a brief stare down I put her down with my 300 weatherby. She ended up dieing just 5 yards from me after a pretty crazy jump and tumble. After getting her packed up and back to my spike camp I continued to hunt for hard for four more days. Monday night it dumped two inches of fresh snow and blew like crazy. No deer were moving so I started running the ridges looking for tracks I ended up cutting a fresh set of tracks and ran down a nice 3 point, but passed. I continued to scourer the mountain and found another set that one ended up being a 25 inch 2 point. That afternoon I dropped down in elevation and got out of the wind and found this buck sunning himself at the base of some rim rock with another 3 point one shot at 348 yards put him down. All total I passed on five legal bucks one other 4x4. Heck of a hunt cant wait till next year. Not the caliber of buck I was holding out for but hey, theres always Idaho to look forward too.

Nice buck...  nice cat...   BTW, just out of curiosity, what were the numbers you were going to use for the lottery???    :dunno:   :chuckle:

Cool story! And congrats. Is that the first time you saw a cat during daylight? I have only seen one during daylight myself. And it was just as close as yours.
yes its the first one that i have seen during  the season. I have ran into them shed hunting the snow line before in the blues but never with the rifle
