Combo moose and elk?
« on: August 27, 2008, 01:43:38 PM »
My wife will be hunting moose in the Huckleberry on Oct. 1st. If we are not successful we will back at the end of Oct. I noticed that the unit is open for any elk starting Oct. 25th, are there any elk in this unit worth spending time to look for?
Just curious,

I have seen a little track and have seen one spike in the two years we have had our propery over there.  Maybe closer towards Fruitland where you will be it is different, but not much towards Kettle Falls..... in my experience.

I've seen elk in and around the Hunter's area while turkey hunting in the spring.  That being said I haven't seen alot of sign of them overall.

I just scouted there over last weekend. More towards the south end of the unit.  I saw plenty of sign, but not too much that is fresh. I think I may try to get into it a little during the rifle season.  PM me for more...

There are a few elk up there, but they are hunted pretty hard by the locals. Good area to at least poke around in . Good luck.
