Umtanum/Wenas camping
« on: October 26, 2012, 10:30:35 PM »
hello folks, I have something I need a little help with, my hunt does not start til next week, I usually camp in BBQ flats with a travel trailer, but as you know this area has been locked.  I was hoping it would be opened up, but it has not happened.  I know the grounds around the feeding area is really populated.  Can anyone point me to good areas up 1701 or is Garret road a camping allowable area?

Some good areas up 1701 once you get up top and haven't been up there since last week so I don't know how crowded it is.  I went up there right after it rained and it was nice and muddy but with snow it might be even muddier and just a little more slippery so the road from the pavement up might be dug out pretty good and the logging trucks might have kept the road decent with some parts dug out?  First few miles up would be the most difficult pulling a trail but without a trailer it shouldn't be difficult, hopefully somebody will chime in that's been up there more recent to let you know for sure.  Good luck and the snow shouldve drove more elk in the umptanum area.

I can't exactly tell where to go up 1701 because I'm not up usually up there during modern so I wouldn't know where to camp.

However, DO NOT TAKE YOUR TRAILER UP GARRETT CANYON.  There is nowhere to turn around for a long ways up, the road is horrible, and last time I was in there a tree was laying over the road, a truck could sneak under it but a trailer wouldn't be able to.

thanks guys.  Garret road is a road that I have not been on, but I have seen it from the top and know of it.  thanks for the info.  Im thinking 1701 is probably my besst bet.  I sure wish those gates to BBQ flats would open!

I didn't pull the trailer up this year.  I parked at Squaw down by the fire station.  Been up and down multiple times the last two days.  It is not torn up at all.  In fact, I'd say it is the best I've seen it up to the top for a coupe years.  There were about ten rigs right at the top.

It wasn't bad on Saturday.  Sunday morning it was strong, but died down.  No worse than most days.

I'm headed back in today.  Had to bring my son home for school.
