Observatory Rd. - Wenas
« on: October 21, 2012, 01:50:55 PM »
Following son & family, we turned off Wenas rd. onto Observatory rd. and pitched camp Friday dusk. Nothing seen Sat. morning, so in the afternoon all five of us piled into an Explorer for a drive to the observatory at the end of the road.

Halfway there we spotted a 3-point followed by another buck about a hundred yds off the road on a ridge. My son, his wife and grandson bailed out to climb the hill after the 3-point.

No luck. They must have fired their JATO or hunkered down. We gave up after an hours search and continued on to the observatory.

Does anybody knows whose facility that is? Beautiful view from up there. It dropped to 28° last night and is very lightly snowing now. We're out of here in the morning headed for Horse Heaben for a few more days of hunting.

I found the observatory's website. It belongs to the UW.

We were camped up on top of Mud Flatts rd and scored a 4x4 buck late Thursday afternoon. We saw a few 3 points but never got a shot off.

Also saw many illegal deer shot around there. Found a 2 point on Saturday with the birds all over it. WTF???

I remember back in the early 60's being on strike from the shipyards, out of money, out of food, a family to feed, etc. I wasn't above harvesting a deer.

That's a whole bunch different than not being able to count three points before .you pull a trigger. There are some real dimwits out here

My son saw a half dozen or so yesterday. He didn't mention if any had cojones, though. They're here.

Know of a couple of spikes taken out of unit and seen a big guy from a couple canyons over and heard of at least 3 big bulls roaming the umptanum.  Good luck and pray for more snow to push them out of the highlands to the wenas if you want more of a better chance otherwise you'll be fighting others to get the few in tjhere now.

Take the Wenas RD past the old campgrounds up the green dot RD. Once you climb out of the valley you can see high top mountian to your left ( last weekend it had a few inches of snow on it).
I forget that every camp makes their own name for roads/ mountians.
good luck!!
