Leak: 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo
« on: October 23, 2012, 08:15:13 AM »
I've already dropped $9K into this rig since I bought it. What's another problem? I don't know if they're related, but i had my engine replaced about 6 months ago and my heater core just before that. I've also replaced the right rear light assembly, but have put liquid gasket all around it. Since I replaced the engine, water is coming in somewhere in the back and filling up my spare tire compartment. It's soaking wet on the right back corner of the cover for the tire compartment.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

I would place a wager that a line for the rear washer has come off/apart.  :twocents:

Thanks for the reply, WC. Can you please explain in such a way as an idiot would understand?

I had this happen to me. It was the seal around back hatch. It only takes a very small slit to cause this.

hes talking about the fluid sprayer for the rear wiper. i would be checking the door seal. but working for Chevrolet for few years and doing all the water testing the easiest way is to put one person outside and one inside with the hose and a flashlight. if you cant see where its coming from start taking panels off till you do.
they call me the bloodhound cause i can track a wounded animal in the rain for 2 days when all it has is a splinter.. sniff sniff awooo

Is this something i can just order the gasket and slip it in a track or something?

There's no fluid for the rear wiper that I know.

If it has a rear wiper it very likely has a washer to.  :twocents:

Yes, it is very easy to replace. As stated before, the rear wiper fluid hose could be leaking as well.

No, but I drove my 84 Cherokee for hunting until last year. 280,000 miles and every problem was minor and easy to repair. I love Jeeps.

Yeah I think they're cool and at times I've wanted in on your gang. But I get a sense that if I looked back on this forum and many others that you'd find more ppl asking about Jeep repair than all others combined.
