brighter fiber optic sights?

I got the red front williams fiber sight,  and can hardly see it through my peep at the start/end of shooting time.  15-20 minutes can see OK.
My buddy left 1/2 hour before end of shooting cause he couldn't see his, I left 15 mins later, same reason.
Talked to another guy at the trucks, and we could still see his sights at the end of shooting time. (didn't ask what kind)

What are the brightest ones?  Mine is red, and I think green would be better.  Do they make tritium ones??

What you are experianceing is pretty normal thru a peep in low light situations... Try this in low light light - remove the rear aperture and use the rear as a ghost ring.  Then when you have enough light screw the aperture back in. 

Other thoughts - make sure you apeture is a hunting apeture .091 in size.  Wiliams also make an aperture called a 'Twilight' that does help light up the peep...

This is what I used to do as well, it works.  You may lose a little bit of accuracy but you will probably be shooting closer range during the legal darker periods anyways.

You might also try the fire sight made by Williams. Sabotloader has this front on his muzzleloaders, and through his posts, has made a believer of me. I converted mine this year, and I must say they are a SIGNIFICANT improvement. The fiber optic rod is twice the size of my previous set. As Sabotloader stated, you can also remove the aperture. The only drawback is you'll also have to purchase the streamlined ramp made for the fire sight, and press it in.

Larger diameter front sights are brighter, but they also cover more of the target at longer distances.  I do think a green or yellow would be brighter than red.

Definitely true... but if you are using a 6 O'clock hold on the target - it should not be a problem at all.  I use a 3" PBR sightin anyway so it is jsut natural to you a 6 o'clock hold.

Color that might be best.... really depends on your personal eyes and what color band they can see...

I did the SL mod with the ramp and firesight.  The red just doesn't seem bright to me.  I did try taking out the peep.  Still way dim.

My buddy has the red front and green rear sights on his great plains rifle.  The green stands out great, the red disappears.

There was a similar thread about the red fiber optic on bow sights being harder to focus on as well.

OK - that kinda answers the question... your eye see the green significantly better than red... I would suggest you call Williams Gun sitght and I do not have the toll free number handy - then extension 226 - that will get you to Steve.  Let him know your problem and ask him for some green piping for your front sight.  It really easy to change especially if you have soldering iron
