I've been considering selling one of my AK's, for a little profit.. My concern is that now might not be the time. I think if Obama is re-elected, the prices will probably go up.. I have heard speculation that if Romney gets the vote, prices will be going down. I dont want to sell now and wish I had waited, or not sold at all. On the flip side, Id hate to see the value on all of my guns go down overnight after the election, and wish that I had sold them for a little profit. I know I'm going to keep at least one of them. I already got rid of one of my AR's and made a little profit on it.
The AK's in question are MAK-90's with square cut stamped recievers. Theyre definately alot nicer than any WASR. This is one exception to the rule of everything Chinese being crap. Really about the only AK I'd be happier with would be a preban Milled PolyTech. So.. who would like to predict how the elections will affect gun values, specifically evil black rifles?

In the second debate, if anybody watched it, he said in his own words, if he is re-elected he is going after them, and all assault rifles, in response to a question.

i think he feels selling assault rifles to Americans is crazy, but selling them to mexican drug cartels, and protecting the shipments as they go south, is a better idea and useful law enforcement tool.

If you don't need it (ie, you have other  ammo and guns dedicated for the zombies) then you could probably make some money off it. It is undoubtedly worth more than what you paid for it right now. While Romney has good chances of winning, I would to save it and see if Obama gets reeelcted. Our nation will likely pass the point of no return on the march to socialism, but on the bright side you'll score a good resale of a gun for a few hundred bucks profit.  :(

He will likely push for an AWB and probably sign an executive order banning, infringing, and restricting foreign made firearms and ammo as much as possible. I'm not sure whether prices would jump overnight or not but after a few years even those cheap WASRs that used to sell for $350 could be worth $1,000+. They aren't exactly a precision made gun and there are better home defense, CQB, etc weapons out there. I don't see them ever being a $2,000 gun at today's dollar values.

I think gross profit % wise, you'll see far greater return if you bought the Russian, steel cased ammo. Picking that up for $0.20-.25/round when the price could easily pass $1/round will probably be a more profitable, and more liquid investment than a gun.  Prices of ammo will likely climb quicker and steeper than firearms. I hope my fears are overblown that too many American gun owners have a safe full of guns and only a few boxes of ammo.

yeah I have already been wishing I didnt shoot up so much ammo in the last couple years. Untold bricks of .22, probably 4k 9mm, maybe 2-3k 7.62x39, probably 2k .223, and assorted others. Another thought I had, would be to sell some guns that are less controversial, and use that money to stock some ammo and reloading components. Its just so hard to decide what goes up for sale.

Seriously would you want to sell it if Obama got re-elected?  Would you be able to legally? I personally hope gun prices hit rock bottom.  To me they are more of an insurance policy and less of an investment anyway, unless you own a shop.

The scary part is what the Bamster is gong to classify as an assault rifle.  It could include my Browning pump shot gun or my old Remington 1100.

Don't sell any guns right now.  If you look at the U.S. dept to GDP ratio and the direction we're going financially, your guns are worth more than dollars right now.  Ammo is the same.  Doesn't matter who wins the election.  The finances are in shambles.

Even if Romney wins I don't expect gun prices to plummet. Rolling back all the infringements upon the 2nd Amendment isn't going to be his highest priority. Prices may loose some of their preeelection speculative bubble, but they aren't going to go through the floor.

and if you need some help picturing whether you should have bought another gun or more ammo when the zombies arrive:

I doubt prices will go up too much, especially on AK’s. I bought my first one during the Bush years (Yugo m70a1) for about 500 and I think it retails for 600 now. It spiked a bit when Obama came into office but the prices settled down when people saw he wasn’t paying much attention to gun issues. A year ago I picked up an unfired WASR for 300.

I think most people who want one have bought one already, they last forever, and unlike the AR platform, there isn’t new stuff coming out all the time. Plus, if Obama (or Romney) does pass an AWB, which for the record: I doubt, distributers will be dumping their stock on the market to get rid of all of them before the ban goes into effect. Unless there is a huge renewal of demand for AKs, that will cause the price to drop.

P.S. I prefer the stamped receivers; they are less prone to heat warping.

Even in a perfect world (HA-HA) it doesn't make sense that the price of firearms would drop, probably just stableise. But the price of ammo will always go up because it's a consummable item. Not every one can or wants to reload. Without ammo, a firearm is just an expensive club.

Cracks me up, people rushing to purchase what they should already have. How many times in the past years has there been a large influx in firearms and ammo purchases come elections? Every time people rush out and pay the inflated prices. The firearms and ammo industry is it's own worst enemy when it comes to these scrambles to purchase such items and the inflated prices due to the "Scare" in which most cases they cause themselves and profit well from it.

The price sure isn't going to go down. :o

The last election, most couldn't  touch a factory AR for under 1200-1500.00. Six months later the gun shops were pilled full of the same AR's for in the ballpark of 800.00.

I don't know about AR's, but man, the price of gas is sure dropping.

Is this due to the election?
