I haven't seen it on this site. Most people seem happy to have harvested a deer period. I think it's rare that a person in WA takes a buck and is NOT happy about it.

He's refereing to the post in 2012 buck on page 15 some guy is calling his own deer a dink. The guy apologised though and it was meant as a private joke betwen him and his friends. Obviously he's shot one bigger last year and was referring to this years as a dink. No need to draw this out though he already appologised for offending people.

I have never had anyone tell me ... "Hey thats a nice 3 point buck steak".
Deer meat is deer meat ... no matter if its a spike or a 4 point...and anytime I can take one I am ecstatic.

If we took away all the dinks posted on this site, there would only be about 3 buck threads on here      Its just a form of communication.  All trophies to someone as well as they should be.  Its the BBD threads that are dinks that are annoying.

I shot a "dink" this year. I hunted 7 days for a good one and never found him but at the end of the day... or week in this case, I needed meat and I secretly enjoy shooting dinks too.

I'm happy with my "dink" but I'd be a whole lot more happy with a giant.... I don't think most guys are complaining about shooting a dink they're just bummed they didn't get mr. Big.

Big, Dink, or any other term has a different meaning to everyone. What is big or small to one hunter may be the opposite to the next hunter. It's all in the eyes of the beholder, as it should be.

I believe that he is saying that any animal harvested should be respected, and shrugging your shoulders and calling your deer a dink is somewhat disrespectful to the animal.  Kinda an ethics thing........I think

I believe jamming a bullet at 3000fps plus through a deer's vitals is much more disrespectful than calling him a "Dink". I have disrespected deer for many years, "Dinks" and others alike. In the end they all die the same and the BBQ could care the less about the antler score.

Ok, I am coming out of the closet. I love shooting dinks, they eat well. I can only stop my actions once I draw my quality tag, then I will get back in the closet that year.

This is what I took away from it too.  I know a guy who is always ashamed of his deer if it isn't a good sized 4x4 at least.  It's too bad he will harvest an animal when he isn't proud of it.

BTW, I shot five does before I could even get a "dink".

I was pissed I shot a 4 point dink last friday evening when the next day I got into the biggest buck I have seen in my 30 years of hunting.  I feel that is a ok reason to be disappointed in making a decision in the early season to shoot a dink.  I now have no tag for my preferred late season and for 5 years in a row now I am going to WA deer camp without a damn tag.....  I did it to myself.

I passed on a mule deer dink in the summer archery season this year. Glad I did because I just saw a much bigger 4 pointer last week. You can't tag the big ones when you'll instantly settle for the smaller ones.

All deer are trophies to me. I can kinda understand why someone would say that though. Now day's it seems like there are so many people into trophy hunting that some people feel as though if they shoot anything short of that then they have to justify it. I think it's a self confidence thing myself, but hey, I'm no expert. We should all be happy with what comes our way and not worry about what anyone else thinks about it. As has been said, meat is meat! The little ones are more tender anyway!

I kind of like underwriting my kills. "Hey guys I just shot a dink" then you send the picture of a nice 5 pointer and they go "damn!" Better to sell expectations short then long.

Define 'Dink'.  My 3pt with eye guards may seem small (or a dink) to many that have harvested heavier beamed and more pointed bucks. But that particular ridge has been a challenge for my hunting capabilities. He's a trophy to me this year for personal reasons. 165 pounds at the butcher with his neck dragging the floor, is meat in the freezer. I'm a meet hunter. A big rack is a bonus. (Deer and women  ) My buddies 3x4 without eye guards wasn't as wide or tall and weighed 20 pounds less at the butcher. Although smaller than several of the bucks he's taken, I doubt he'd ever call him a dink. 
I didn't read the other thread, but I do agree that it is the hunters own perogative to call his/her deer what-ever they want. Some have different perspective on what is a dink/small racked/small bodied deer. There are a lot of  'dinks' I'd be quite happy with.

Funny topic that hasnt meant more to me than this year.  I drew one of the better elk tags in the state.  Hunted hard but butted heads a little with my partner.  I ended up taking a good bull IMO and was pumped because it was my first with a bow.  I was all pumped and when we got back to camp my partner (who seemed not impressed with the bull to begin with) made the comment to another guy that "he just shot a DINK."  I dont think he knew i heard it and dont care, just killed the mojo and cheapened a tag i waited 13 years for. 

Moral of the story is, if you want to call your own deer a dink, that is on you, but dont ever cheapen someone else's hunt/animal with your accessment of it.  As long as it is completely legal, they ALL have a level of greatness.  I would brag up a guy that shot a spike and did it legally before anyone that took a masher in any illegal way.

Lots a feedback  all different replies interesting.My angle was the fact some hunters say ''dink'' in refernce to small.The point was is either they try to make themselves seem better hunters by  how big their animals are but this they shot a dink which by all standards alot of hunters would be happy as a clam ,not either side is a better hunter but having respect for the sport and others.When that big buck finally crossesin ur scope makes  it all that more  special .
